Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness1Be present and gain emotional well-being.

Studying and practicing mindfulness meditation provides skills to help improve and maintain your mental health.

In my experience, clients who develop fundamental skills and consistently practice see faster results and more comprehensive progress with treatment.

Beyond this, a wealth of credible, evidence-based research supports the numerous and extensive benefits of developing a mindfulness meditation practice (see bottom of the page for references).

Focus on awareness and reflection.

Mindfulness is maintaining awareness of moment-to-moment experiences and your habitual reactions to them. Meditation is a redirection of awareness and reflection that continues to return to a common point of focus or theme.

Therefore, mindfulness meditation is the recurring redirection of attention to present-moment experiences and habitual reaction patterns to these experiences.

With this approach, we train to become more aware of experiences in consciousness and the physical body. We utilize this awareness to change distressing and unhelpful habitual reaction patterns and develop your ability to sustain a state of single-pointed concentration.

A focused state of mind results in greater contentment, mental clarity, and the ability to cope with distressing events and emotions.

Mindfulness 2 1Enhance your overall mental health.

I have maintained two hours of practice daily for nearly 15 years and have had the great fortune to study with renowned and authentic meditation masters, engaging in intensive periods of undistracted training.

Within therapy treatment, we take a rational, evidence-based approach to developing and utilizing this practical skill for improving mental health. The practices used in treatment are beneficial for clients of any spiritual, religious, or cultural background.

We progress in training and practice week by week. I often practice with clients in sessions to help facilitate development. Engaging in practice together in session has shown to be much more effective than simply handing out a worksheet with instructions or only discussing mindfulness meditation practice.

The benefits are only experienced when one engages in practice.

Mindfulness3The results speak for themselves.

Clients commonly report immediate relaxation and clarity after our practice sessions and notice substantial results after a month of engaging in 10-15 minutes of practice twice daily.

As our goal in treatment is psychological stability, these time-tested and heavily researched practices deliver results quickly!
