People seek individual therapy for a variety of reasons. They may want guidance as they explore options related to making life changes.

Others may seek therapy to discuss relationships or behaviors that keep them from having meaningful relationships with others.

Personal goals may sound good, but there is uncertainty about how to achieve those goals.

Even more intense issues (e.g., managing stress, anxiety, or trauma) also bring people to therapy.

Whatever the reason, individual therapy can help.

Many theories, modalities, and approaches are utilized in therapy to reduce suffering and help bring about positive change. Here, I will share the underlying principles and dynamics that make individual therapy effective, regardless of what presenting concern or diagnosis is present.

The therapeutic relationship between the client and clinician is the foundation of successful treatment. A warm, open, and authentic connection is relieving, and it allows us to be productive and efficient with the time we have together in session.

I provide a secure space for you to express yourself and process your emotions while contributing helpful perspectives informed by my education and clinical training.

We collaborate to formulate your treatment goals, case conceptualization, and the path to the changes you want to experience.

Therapy is about YOU, not me.

While I have specialized knowledge in psychology and healing methods of therapy, I recognize that you are, in many ways, the expert of your life and relationships. This is why it is so essential that we work together during each step of treatment to help you accomplish your goals. Playing an active role is necessary for your progress with therapy and will also benefit you after treatment.

Listening with curiosity, attentiveness, and accurate empathy, I aim to understand your perspective. As much as possible, I want to form an understanding of what it is like to be you and in your situation. This enables me to meet you better where you are and offer perspectives and plans of action that are appropriate, realistic, and helpful.

Working together as a team, we will validate your experiences and foster an internal sense of positive self-regard and confidence. We will also considerately challenge and bring awareness to contradictions, unhelpful perspectives, and cognitive distortions.

When you receive undivided attention and authentic compassion, you can begin to accept yourself as you currently are and change. Based on this, we can utilize methods specific to presenting concerns, diagnoses, and therapeutic modalities.
