Sandy* is struggling. Her intelligence and work ethic have gotten her far in life, but she’s frustrated that she keeps choosing partners that make her feel unimportant and invalidated. Sometimes, the anxiety of it all becomes too much, and panic takes hold, leaving her reeling for several days.

She hoped things would improve with time, but relief remains frustratingly out of reach. “I’m a competent and strong person, so why am I so powerless when it comes to dealing with these emotions?” It feels hopeless.

Joseph* is suffering with low self-esteem and feeling isolated after his interactive high school experience was turned into solitary online modules. Now, public settings make him feel uncomfortable and anxious.

He distracts himself by playing video games, instead of his college assignments, which have piled up halfway through the semester. Even small assignments evoke intense panic, reminding him of feelings from his childhood, when his family got into frequent shouting matches.

John* is in pain. He’s in the middle of a rocky divorce and in the process of weaning off his ADHD medication. Lately, the only thing that brings him any joy is speeding down the freeway on his motorcycle.

Years before, he was in several accidents that led to chronic pain, substance abuse, and eventually rehab. Between the loss of his marriage, the complications of divorce, and stress at work, he can feel the pressure mounting. He doesn’t want to fall back into those old habits but is in critical need for some peace.

Lisa* is trapped in the past. It’s hard to get through a single day without something triggering a memory of what happened. As a child, she was abused by a family member. When she told her parents, they didn’t believe her and told her never to talk about it again.

As she got older, she coped in any way she could, frequently turning to alcohol to numb the pain. One particularly bad night, she threatened to harm herself and wound up in a facility. She wants so badly to move past this but doesn’t know how.

More about me

Sandy contacted me, and we began developing emotional regulation techniques and a self-care routine that reduced the effects of anxiety in her day-to-day life. We explored her past relationships and found recurring themes and patterns that mirrored the dynamics in her relationship with her parents.

Armed with this newfound insight, she was ready to try again. Now, she’s a year into a satisfying relationship.

Joseph was encouraged by his parents to seek therapy. We began with telehealth, so he could begin treatment from the comfort of his room, focusing on practical organization skills, self-care and academic habits to build his confidence.

Together, we discovered that his intense anxiety response to academic demands was a result of his unresolved emotional trauma from childhood. We transitioned to in-person sessions to engage in EMDR processing. Joseph is “on top of all assignments” and getting grades he is proud of, while making new connections with classmates.

John reached out to me for assistance and external accountability. Having the space in therapy to talk through, feel, and validate his grief from the divorce helped to reduce emotional outbursts.

John decided to take the mindfulness/meditation training aspect of treatment seriously and noticed improved mood and less pain. He now feels calmer, in control, and like a role model his kids can look up to.

Lisa called me and was immediately relieved to find a safe place to talk about her trauma without being dismissed or invalidated. Putting her experience into words helped her remove the power it had when it was an unspeakable secret she kept to herself.

We then utilized EMDR to process her trauma and reduce its impact for good. She now feels calm, safe, and ready to embrace the future.
